Henry Ericsson (Eric) Theis Jr. passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 19, at the age of 54. Eric was an intelligent man, having read more books that one could believe imaginable. He was an avid movie and music lover, with large collections of his favorites that he greatly enjoyed sharing. He was a force at Trivial Pursuit and was always willing to discuss and debate contentious subjects. Although he loved to argue at times, Eric was a very caring man who loved the opportunities he was given to devote himself to service. He was proud of his service but was even more proud of his children. Eric loved his family very deeply and would light up when given the opportunity to talk about each of them. With his bright blue eyes, booming voice, and over six-foot stature, Eric was never missed in a crowd but will certainly be missed by many. Throughout his childhood, Eric moved to many locations but held the fondest memories of his time in Hinsdale, IL where he celebrated his 40th Oak School Elementary School reunion with many childhood friends. Many of his childhood memories include summers at his grandparents? house at Pistakee Lake in McHenry, IL with his brothers and cousins. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH in 1978 and loved to share his stories of playing music and sports and attending many Socratic seminars. Eric then went on to attend Miami University of Ohio in Oxford, OH and then Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA before moving to Eagleville, PA to start his career and family with his first wife, Nancy Griest Theis. He was a gifted software architect and programmer and was always an integral part of the teams with which he worked, at companies such as Premier Systems, Towers Perrin, MicroFocus, Politzer & Haney, Netegrity, Computer Associates, Identity and Access Management and most recently Insignia Technology Services. Having received his Eagle Scout award, Eric was excited to become actively involved in the Boy Scouts after moving to Marlborough, MA in 1994. He spent ten years as the pack leader of Pack 42 in the Marlborough Cub Scouts and spent various summers working at Camp Resolute as a director of Parent/Son Weekends with friends and family members. There were many events that Eric enjoyed throughout his years volunteering with the Boy Scouts, including Pinewood Derbies, Scouting for Food, and various camping trips. Eric also enjoyed his time as Registrar and Committee member with the Marlborough Youth Baseball Association, especially when he was able to coach his children. In 2008, Eric became involved in the United Brethren Lodge of Marlborough, MA and greatly enjoyed his time with his Masonic brothers at the lodge. He was also an avid gamer, meeting many lifelong friends in his fourteen years participating in EverQuest. As a role-player in the virtual world of Second Life, Eric found his best friend who later became his wife. On February 1, 2014, Eric married his adoring wife, Katya Robles Theis, in St. Augustine, FL in the company of their family and friends. They recently moved to Portsmouth, VA and celebrated their first wedding anniversary. He was the son of the late Henry Ericsson Theis Sr. and Laura Yates Theis, whom he unfortunately lost within the past year. He is survived by his devoted wife, Katya Robles Theis, of Orlando, FL and Puerto Rico; his three children, William Alexander, Benjamin Ericsson, and Laura Scott and their mother, Nancy Griest Theis of Marlborough, MA; his three brothers, John Bolling (Lisa) of Guilderland, NY, Frank Munford (John Paul) of Pottstown, PA, and Peter Radford (Alexis) of Sewickley, PA; his four nieces and nephews: Sophie, Jackson, Nicholas, and Anna; and his dear friends Thomas and Nell Hartley of Sewickley, PA. Services will take place on Saturday, February 28 at the Sturtevant Funeral Home in Portsmouth, VA with viewing hours from 10 to 11 a.m. directly followed by the memorial service. The family suggests that memorial donations be sent in Eric?s name to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization that was dear to his heart. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
